Janelle Coleman (M.S., Ph.D., University of Tennessee, Knoxville) is the Faculty Consultant for Assessment at UT's Teaching and Learning Innovation department (TLI) since the summer of 2016. Before her tenure at the TLI, she taught a number of years for Knox County Schools, Maryville College and Pellissippi Community College. Aside from her Master's in Teacher Education, she has a doctorate in Modern Foreign Languages and Literatures, with specialties in Twentieth Century Latin American Literature, US Afro-Latino Studies and Brazilian Portuguese. She published the article, Dualidades y demonios coloniales en Cosecha de huesos por Edwidge Danticat (a study of the duality and the colonial aspects of the symbolism in the novel The Farming of Bones), and collaborated on the development of UT's Service Learning Course Design Guide (2017). During her time with TLI, she has conducted workshops on the following topics: best practices for programmatic assessment and course-level assessment, writing test questions, culturally responsive assessment and service-learning.
