As a polymath, his research interests includes semiotics, systems theory, sacred music, popular music and semiotics, Foucault studies, semiotics and globalization, multi-modality, and the semiotics of educational processes. Javier is the Executive Director of the Semiotic Society of America, a philosophical society dedicated to the study of signs and meaning.

His research in educational leadership includes peace and conflict resolution-transformation through the arts, as well as leadership in systemic change, diversity and inclusion, higher education administration, assessment in higher education, and strategic program design. He is a Fellow, “Conflict Transformation through Culture: Peace-Building and the Arts,” Salzburg Global Seminars, in Salzburg, Austria; and a Fellow in the New Leadership Academy, American Association of Hispanics in Higher Education and The University of Michigan.

Javier Clavere, is an award-winning performer and scholar that crosses over the worlds of keyboard performance, music theory, music technology, sacred music, and semiotics. He has performed as a pianist, organist, and carillonneur in three continents over a span of four decades. A consistent prizewinner, he has both participated and won prizes in the Los Angeles Franz Liszt International Piano Competition, International Utah Mozart Festival, Palm Beach Invitational International Piano Competition. Javier was born in Rosario, Argentina, and was invited to the United States by the late Paul Pollei and the Bachauer International Piano Competition in Salt Lake City, later to attend on a full scholarship Brigham Young University. He has performed as a piano duo with his wife Lindsay since 1996. In honor of their wedding, composer Seymour Bernstein wrote “Rhapsody on Two Names – Javier and Lindsay,” premiered at their piano duo debut in the Assembly Hall Concert Series in Salt Lake City in 1997.

His love for technology and formal training in database development and e-business allow him to research music production and audio engineering, recording and livestreaming. His latest passion is combining entrepreneurial studies and the arts.
