John D. Hathcoat is an Assistant Professor of Graduate Psychology and Associate Director of University Learning Outcomes Assessment in the Center for Assessment and Research Studies at James Madison University (JMU). John serves as an assessment liaison to faculty members who coordinate general education programs in both quantitative/scientific reasoning as well the arts and humanities. John also coordinates university initiatives aiming to assess post-collegiate outcomes and serves as a liaison to the division of student affairs at JMU. He has taught applied statistics, research methods, measurement theory, and performance assessment at the graduate level. His research primarily focuses on validity theory and measurement issues related to authentic assessment practices in higher education.
