ETS and AAC&U have been working on parallel lines to address twenty-first century learning that equips students for success. Alignment between high school and college is essential if we are to in practice create an educational system learning paradigm wherein students are intentionally engaged in developing cross-disciplinary, integrated, scaffolded higher-order skills and abilities by the time they complete their undergraduate learning pathways. By creating assessments that focus on complex integration and application of learning to tasks and projects that requires the fingerprints or signature of the student herself/himself, for example the ETS Touchpoint Portfolio options and AAC&U VALUE rubrics in conjunction with work products, learning rather than specific course or credit accumulation becomes the aligning map and connective tissue that allows a healthy system for learning to grow and flourish.
